This Privacy Policy describes what information we gather on the Website and how we use that information. Known for her futuristic, curvilinear architectural forays, Zaha Hadid, the Iraqi Pritzker prize winning architect, has never been one to shy away from making a statement. From London’s Aquatics Centre to the Zaragoza Bridge Pavilion to the Guangzhou Opera House, Zaha’s architectural style remains unique. Now the Iraqi born designer can add Korea’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza to her team’s resume.

Hadid focused on the dynamism of the Dongdaemun area, which is in a state of constant flux from the early morning to late at night. Her design, entitled “Metonymic Landscape,” uses the historical, cultural, social, and economic characteristics of the Dongdaemun area as its foundation and adds futuristic values and vision to it. Hadid created a space that flows without boundaries, based on her observations of the region's continuously changing dynamics. The façade itself is not solid; instead it incorporates a field of pixilation and perforations, that together create a changing visual dynamic that shifts depending on lighting and seasonal conditions. For instance at night, the changing façade reflects Dongdaemun’s many lights and signage, turning the project into one giant illuminated structure.

The DDP is an architectural landscape that revolves around the ancient city wall and cultural artefacts discovered during archaeological excavations preceding DDP’s construction. These historic features form the central element of DDP’s composition; linking the park, plaza and city together. The main building of the DDP is about 280 meters long, and it has three levels under the ground and four levels above the ground. The building has several giant public areas, including a design lab, exhibition all, academy lab, design museum, conference hall, Dongdaemun culture and history park, design market, etc. The DDP also has underground spaces, a parking area, a feeding room, dispensaries, a cafe, a coatroom, etc.

It became a tourist attraction, and all the people came here to buy and try new and latest fashion items at the best price. The team were able to have greater control of the design and details, with much greater precision than a conventional construction process; giving the client and the contractors a much better understanding and control of the project. DDP is the first public project in Korea to utilize the 3-Dimensional Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other digital tools in construction.

Before this place was an open space, they transformed it into a beautiful LED Rose Garden that displays the unique, magnificent, and modern technology of LED lights. There are almost 25,550 LED roses lit up in the dark which serves as the best attraction in Seoul during the night, especially for couples. The building opened on 21 March to mark the start of Korean Fashion Week, but is also hosting five art and design exhibitions, alongside a collection of Korean art from the Kansong Art Museum. Voids puncturing the surface of the park offer a look down into the spaces below, and also allow daylight to permeate the building. The complex is made up of eight storeys, of which four sit above ground level and four are set below the plaza.

The DDP Park is a place for leisure, relaxation and refuge - a new green oasis within the busy urban surroundings of Dongdaemun. Voids in the park's surface give visitors glimpses into the innovative world of design below, making the DDP an important link between the city's contemporary culture, emerging nature and history. The DDP is an architectural landscape that revolves around the ancient city wall and cultural artefacts discovered during archaeological excavations preceding DDP's construction. These historic features form the central element of DDP's composition; linking the park, plaza and city together.
